In December 2008, Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions acquired The Driving Instructor Centre Ltd. Based in Leicester; The Driving Instructor Centre is the UK's leading supplier of contract hire vehicles to driving instructors and driving schools, leasing over 3000 cars. The centre was established in 1989 and their services aim to take all the risk and worry away from a driving instructor in relation to obtaining, running and maintaining a driving school car. If their car is off the road for any reason the instructor simply receives a replacement vehicle so they can continue their lessons without interruption.
Managing Director Mark West, who reports directly to Simon Oliphant, Chief Executive at Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, is well known in the industry, having been in the market for over 10 years. Mark commented “Joining Hitachi Capital has been great news for our business and the driving instructor market; it means we have financial security and stability. We can continue to support and work with our customers and be here for them as their businesses grow. The last six months have been an exciting time and we have started to rebrand our offices in Leicester so that we look as well as feel part of Hitachi Capital”.

The agreement to acquire the company further broadens Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions' offering, which spans car and commercial fleet finance and fleet management services.
