Hitachi

Issue September 2009, Tokyo (Japan)

This year, Hitachi, Ltd. has been selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability World Indexes (DJSI), the world's famous Social Responsible Investment (SRI) index. The index lists 317 companies in total. This is the eighth time that Hitachi has been selected since 1999.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes is the stock index developed co-operatively by Dow Jones & Company in the United States, and Sustainability Asset Management (SAM) Group Holding, an investment boutique in Switzerland focused exclusively on Sustainability Investing. They assess three main dimensions in addition to a company's financial and business performance: economic (Corporate Governance, Risk & Crisis Management, Codes of Conduct / Compliance / Corruption & Bribery), environmental, and social (Occupational Health & Safety, Human Capital Development, Talent Attraction & Retention, and Standards for Suppliers). Every year, the top 10% of the most sustainable companies in different industrial categories are selected from among 2,500 companies for the DJSI. Hitachi is listed in the “Industrial Goods & Services” category.

This year, Hitachi's highest scores were in the Environmental Dimension and Innovation Management within the Economic Dimension. The latter in particular is due to Hitachi's continuous management and investment in cutting-edge R&D.

Being selected for the DJSI means being recognised as a leading global company in CSR management.
