Hitachi stand at PCIM Europe 2009 fair
PCIM 2009 is an annual exhibition to showcase new semiconductors for motion control and peripheral applications, most notably motor control. This year it was held in Nuremburg, Germany. The Power Device Department (PDD) returned to the show for the first time in five years following the completion of its high voltage high power Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) line-up. IGBTs from Hitachi are typically used by our European partners for electrical propulsion and auxiliary power systems in traction (train) applications to regulate power to motors; as well as power supplies required by the train's air-conditioning, battery charging and other passenger services such as laptop power connections.
PDD exhibited the new E2 series IGBT chip and product line-up, which offers significant energy consumption savings and enables customers to increase their converter output power within the same physical dimensions of existing equipment designs. This leads to even lower carbon footprints for public mass transit systems, a core application of the department.
PDD hosted visits from several Tier 1 partners where Hitachi was shortlisted for key projects on new Intercity and Locomotive platforms, including the latest 6.5kV IGBTs.
PCIM was attended by several thousand visitors, ranging from industrial, renewable energy and automotive manufacturers, to university researchers. The show was an excellent opportunity to show Hitachi's technical excellence and to add to the company's European brand awareness campaign.
