Hitachi

Enterprise Class

BladeSymphony1000 chassis

The Hitachi BladeSymphony® 1000 — a 10U, eight-blade chassis — is the original enterprise-class blade server.

  •   Enterprise-class performance, provided by a choice of Intel® Itanium®- or Xeon®-processor blades in the same 10U chassis.

  •   Enterprise-class scalability, achieved in a blade format with Hitachi's unique Itanium scale-up feature.

  •   Enterprise-class flexibility, with support for standard PCI-X and PXI-e I/O cards.

  •   Enterprise-class reliability, assured by fully-redundant components throughout, the N+M cold-standby failover mechanism, and Hitachi's famous quality control.

Add to these Hitachi's embedded virtualization technology, HVM, and you have a blade server you can deploy with confidence for your most mission-critical applications.

Intel Itanium Processor Blades

BladeSymphony1000 Itanium blade

Built around Hitachi's own chipset, the BladeSymphony 1000 Itanium blade is uniquely capable of scaling to large shared-memory (SMP) configurations. Up to four blades can be combined in a single shared-memory unit with up to 16 processor cores, 256GB of memory and 16 standard PCI slots.

Each Itanium blade has the following configuration options.

  •   Two sockets of Intel Itanium 9100 series processor,

  •   16 DIMM slots for 64GB memory per blade,

  •   Access to up to 4 standard PCI slots.

  •   Scale up to 2, 3 or 4 blades in a shared-memory configuration.

Intel Xeon Processor Blades

BladeSymphony1000 Xeon blade

Dual- or quad-core Intel Xeon-processor 5400 series blades can be configured alongside Itanium blades in the same chassis.

Each Xeon blade has the following configuration options.

  •   Two sockets of Intel Xeon dual- or quad-core processors

  •   Up to 32GB of 667MHz FB-DIMMs

  •   Bays for up to four 2.5" SAS disc drives (RAID 0/1/5)

  •   Access to up to 4 standard PCI slots.

Embedded Virtualization

Hitachi Virtualization Manager

Since HVM is built-in, it requires no separate OS layer or third-party software, so it can safely share or isolate resources between partitions with a lower performance penalty than traditional software-only virtualization solutions.

HVM is supported by both dual-core Itanium and quad-core Xeon blades. The advantages of HVM in performance, reliability and security make it true enterprise-class virtualization for Intel's server processor family.
