FIRST PRODUCTION UNITS OF HITACHI CLASS 395 TRAINS FOR HS1 SERVICE EMBARK ON JOURNEY FROM JAPAN TO UK ON TIME

LONDON, 9 DECEMBER 2008 – Hitachi Rail Group (Hitachi) today announced that the first production standard sets of new Class 395 trains for Southeastern's high speed service have been shipped from their factory in Kasado, Japan. The shipment follows successful testing of the first four units on the High Speed 1 line between Ashford and St Pancras and on the Kent DC network.

HITACHI CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL FIRST ANNIVERSARY FOR ASHFORD TMC

ASHFORD, 1 OCTOBER 2008 – Hitachi Rail Group (Hitachi) today celebrates the first anniversary of its state-of-the-art Ashford Train Maintenance Centre (TMC), which was opened 12 months ago by Ruth Kelly, the Secretary of State for Transport. Over the past year the TMC has attracted over 3,500 visitors from the UK, Europe and Japan's rail industry and has so far created 47 jobs for local employees.

HITACHI EUROPE AND ELKART SIGN PARTNERSHIP DEAL TO ROLL OUT SECURITY SOLUTIONS IN POLAND

Warsaw, Poland, August 14th 2008, Hitachi Europe Ltd. and ELKART Systemy Kart Elektronicznych Sp. z o.o. in Poland have signed a partnership agreement to develop new IT security-related business in the banking and government sectors in the Polish IT market. The agreement covers Hitachi's smart card solutions based on the Secure MULTOS platform for banking and public administration related applications, as well as Hitachi's award winning Finger Vein Authentication System.

Hitachi secures contract to supply a Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) system for Elektrownia “Kozienice” S.A. in Poland

Tokyo, July 17, 2008. Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT / TSE:6501) today announced that it has secured an order for the construction of a Fuel Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) system for the Kozienice coal-fired power plant unit no.10 (500MW) near Warsaw in Poland in partnership with Energo Montaz. Polnoc S.A.( EMP) The total contract amount is EURO net 77,33 million (Approx. PLN 260,86 million) and commercial operations will commence from the beginning of 2011.

INTERNATIONAL TEACHER EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

22nd April 2008 – Hitachi Europe Ltd. today announced that the 14th annual teacher exchange programme, HISTEP, organised by the company will take place from 30th April – 4th May 2008. HISTEP is a teacher exchange programme organised by Hitachi to promote communication and cultural understanding among North American, European and Japanese nations by means of a cross-cultural secondary school teachers' exchange and educational programme.

European scientists to debate ageing society challenges at the 11th EU Hitachi Science and Technology Forum

21st April 2008 – Hitachi Europe Ltd. today announced that the 11th EU Hitachi Science and Technology Forum will be hosted at Sheraton Arabellapark Hotel in Munich on 26th and 27th April 2008, bringing together European experts, Forum members, representatives from industry, NGOs and academia to debate the topic: “Ageing Society and Technology”.

Electrabel, E.ON Kraftwerke and Hitachi Power Europe to build and operate a facility for testing CO2 capture

Electrabel, E.ON Kraftwerke and Hitachi intend to cooperate in a joint research project. Target of the project is to design, build and operate a test facility to investigate the behaviour of different solvents in the process for CO2 capture from flue gases. The main aim of the project is the execution of scrubbing tests under real flue gas conditions with different chemical solvents.
