Foundation stone laid in Kozienice

Hitachi Power Europe (HPE) is erecting the power plant together with parent Hitachi, Babcock Hitachi and consortium partner Polimex Mostatal.

The order has an overall volume of EUR 1.5 billion.

Among the 250 invited guests were representatives of the Polish government - headed by Premier Donald Tusk - the Japanese and German ambassadors and numerous high-ranking representatives from ministries, official agencies and industry.

Klaus Dieter Rennert, Chairman of the HPE Board of Directors, emphasized the magnificent performance: "We are today starting construction of a power plant which when completed in 2017 will rank amongst the most efficient and high-tech bituminous coal fired plants in the world." He said that both engineering and the excellent Hitachi Group components ensured optimization of resources consumption and of emissions. The power plant would provide dependable electricity at favorable prices for Poland.

Krzysztof Zborowski, Head of customer Enea Wytwarzanie and Member of the ENEA Executive Board, emphasized the significance of the project for both ENEA and the Kozienice site. Between 1,000 and 2,500 people will be working on the project site or in the surrounding area over the next five years. Mr.

Zborowski added that during the commercial operation 300 jobs would be created. Construction of the power plant was one of the most important investments in expanding the generating capacity of the ENEA Group. He said that the power plant was an important element of ENEA's long-term strategy.

The power plant unit will have a gross 1,075 megawatt capacity. Construction will take 58 months; work on the project site was begun in October of this year.

The new unit will take up commercial operations at the existing power plant site in 2017.
