Hitachi Europe Announces the Appointment of Mr Naotoshi Nishida as New Managing Director

(TSE:6501), today announced that Mr Naotoshi Nishida has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Hitachi Europe. Mr Nishida currently serves as General Manager, Heavy Industry Department, Industrial Plant Sales Division, Industry & Distribution Business Unit, Hitachi, Ltd. and succeeds Mr Kazuo Abe who has been newly appointed a senior management position at Hitachi Transport Systems Ltd. The new appointments will be effective 1 April 2018.

Since Mr Nishida joined Hitachi in 1992, he has held various supervisory and senior management positions, particularly in the Industrial Plant businesses. He has led the global expansion of the large-scale industrial plant businesses through working closely with customers, partners, subcontractors and Hitachi engineers. Furthermore, he has over five and a half years of experience at Hitachi Asia Ltd. in Singapore, and over four and a half years at Hitachi India Pvt. Ltd., where he managed the local team to win and deliver key projects in the Asian market. Throughout his career, Mr Nishida has developed in-depth expertise of international businesses and has strong experience of leading Hitachi businesses seeking new opportunities in rapidly changing markets.

During the past three and a half years as Managing Director of Hitachi Europe, Mr Abe has overseen many changes and business developments, resulting in higher revenues for Hitachi Europe. The company achieved high annual growth rate in many of its current business portfolio, in particular in its Power Device, Industrial Components and Equipment, Information Systems, and Digital Media businesses. In addition, the Particle Beam Therapy System business won its first order in Europe, which will contribute to revenue growth in the coming years. Furthermore, he led the incubation and development of Europe’s Social Innovation Business, which utilizes digital technologies, through newly establishing a team of local leaders. Mr Abe has also been involved in Hitachi’s European programme of Social Innovation Forums, which have taken place in UK, Italy, Germany and Turkey, as well as the opening of Hitachi Europe’s newest Centre for Social Innovation in London.

Hitachi is currently implementing structures and policies aimed at the global expansion of its Social Innovation Business. In its 2018 Mid-term Management Plan, Hitachi set a goal of increasing its ratio of overseas sales to 55%. Mr Nishida will take a leading role in the business operations for Hitachi Europe, specifically focusing on the further expansion of Hitachi’s Social Innovation Business through Co-Creation with customers. As part of this responsibility, he will have a key focus on aligning Hitachi Group Companies in Europe, supporting them in bringing One Hitachi Solutions to market.
