The contract was signed on 7th March and has a value of approximately EUR 50 million.

Hitachi Rail already has a strong presence in the Danish capital. Since 2002, 34 Italian-made metro trains manufactured in Naples, Pistoia and Reggio Calabria have been in revenue service on the M1/M2 lines; an additional 39 trains manufactured for the Cityringen line will enter into service next year. All vehicles are driverless metros.

The eight new metro trains will be delivered by 2020 and will have similar features as the Cityringen vehicles with some necessary adaptations to run on the M1/M2 lines.

The trains will have the state-of-the-art technology already developed for the Cityringen vehicles. The internal layout will be designed to increase transport capacity, in line with the needs of the service. The signalling and communication systems, which are included in the contract, will be provided by Ansaldo STS.
