A Milestone for the Supply of Energy in South Africa

It is the first major milestone on the way to a more stable and environmentally compatible supply of energy in South Africa. The talk here is of the first boiler column which was set down at the Medupi site for the future 4,800 MW utility power plant on Saturday 16 January. Over the next few years, a total of 12 bituminous coal power plant units will arise at Medupi, which is some 350 kms away from Johannesburg, and at a another site (Kusile) which, on their completion, will ensure an almost 20% share of the overall supply of electricity in South Africa.

HITACHI DEVELOPS LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES FOR PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Tokyo, January 13, 2010 — Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT / TSE:6501, hereinafter Hitachi) today announced that Hitachi and Hitachi Vehicle Energy, Ltd., which develops and manufactures lithium-ion batteries for automotive applications, such as hybrid electric vehicles, have developed lithium-ion batteries for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, a first for the Hitachi Group. These new batteries were developed in response to the growing demand for environment-friendly vehicles resulting from the increasingly strict regulations on automobile exhaust emissions around the world.

(“Hitachi Vehicle Energy”; Hitachi-naka City, Ibaraki Pref.; President: Hidetaka Kawamoto), a Hitachi Group company that develops and manufactures lithium-ion (“Li-ion”) batteries for hybrid electric vehicles and other applications, has completed construction of a volume production line for 3rd-generation automotive Li-ion batteries.

FINAL CLASS 395 TRAIN ARRIVES IN SOUTHAMPTON, BEGINS LAST LEG OF JOURNEY TO DEPOT IN ASHFORD

LONDON, 17 AUGUST 2009 – The 29th and final Hitachi train ordered for Southeastern High Speed Services will be unloaded at the Port of Southampton today. The train will arrive in Southampton on board Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics' 67,140 GRT RoRo ship, MV Tamesis and will be transferred by DB Schenker to Hitachi's state of the art maintenance facility in Ashford for commissioning.
