Train station of the future

The train stations of the future promise safer, cleaner and more efficient journeys for all.
August 2019

Across Europe, more and more people are taking to the railways for both short- and long-distance travel. The period from 2013-2017 saw five years of consecutive growth in the EU, with more than 9.6 billion passengers travelling on national railway networks in 2017 alone. This is increasingly driven by people trying to reduce the impact their travel makes on the environment. As more people turn to trains for transport, our train stations need to adapt to handle the crowds.

Technological innovations will be crucial in this transition. From real-time information about your train and how it connects to other forms of transport straight to your phone to replacing ticket barriers with sensors, these are just some of the first-class innovations that could be rolled out at a station near you. These innovations aren’t just confined to the stations themselves but rolled out on the tracks too, including battery powered trains - the cleaner, quieter future for rail travel.

The train stations of the future promise safer, cleaner and more efficient journeys for all. Check out our animation below to see what your Monday morning commute might soon look like.
