First Grade Secondary School "Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa" hit by the Esanatoglia (Macerata) earthquake has been inaugurated today with a contribution from Hitachi Italy, in the presence of President of The Republic Sergio Mattarella In collaboration with Confederazione Nazionale delle Misericordie, the building will be opened in September and host 60 students Milan, June 28, 2018 --- The companies of the Hitachi Group, including Ansaldo STS, have taken part today in the inauguration of a new building that will house the "Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa" Grade 1 Secondary School from September in Esanatoglia, a municipality in the province of Macerata.

Hitachi is one of the five donors contributing to the reconstruction project for the school which was devastated by the 2016 Central Italy earthquake. The project is being promoted by the Confederazione Nazionale delle Misericordie d'Italia as the client and implementer and can be attributed to collaboration between the Municipality of Esanatoglia, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Civil Protection Department and the Ministry of Education, University and Research.

Hitachi has mobilised its companies throughout the country to provide a significant contribution to fundraising, in some cases with the direct involvement of employees. Several Hitachi Group companies in Italy contributed to the initiative including Ansaldo STS, Hitachi Rail Italy, Hitachi Europe, Hitachi Drives & Automation, FIAMM Energy Technology, Hitachi Industrial Engineering EMEA and Hitachi Medical Systems Italy.

The agreement to finance the reconstruction of the school was signed on 5 February, with work due to be completed by the summer.

"We are very proud to have contributed to the reconstruction of the school, together with the National Confederation of Mercy of Italy. This project has allowed the lives of many students to return to normal. Having heard the news of the earthquake last year, we did not hesitate to try and make a contribution to the affected communities right from the start. I would like to thank everyone in the Hitachi Group in Italy for their immediate support in fundraising, as well as everyone involved in the project," says Lorena Dellagiovanna, Country Manager for Italy at Hitachi Europe Ltd. "The mission of Hitachi, involving all the local, national and institutional entities with which it works, is to provide society with concrete solutions, turning today's challenges into opportunities and creating a safer, smarter and more sustainable world.

” “The sign left by the earthquake in Central Italy is unfortunately indelible. Being able to participate in this initiative, however, has allowed us to contribute to the rebirth of the territory and the community. This school symbolises the need to look to the future that characterises the Hitachi mission, nurturing the talent of new generations that we hope will make a significant contribution to the development of society that benefits everyone" comments Maurizio Manfellotto, CEO of Hitachi Rail Italy.

The new school has an extension of over 400 square meters, compared to its original size, arranged on one floor. Designed to accommodate 60 students in three classrooms and a laboratory, the building will support the teaching activities and in total safety.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, participation included the Minister of Education Marco Bussetti, President of Confederazione Nazionale delle Misericordie d’Italia Roberto Trucchi, the members of the Council and the Municipal Council, the major Nazareno Bartocci and the Extraordinary Commissioner for Reconstruction Paola De Micheli.
