Hitachi Power Europe enters Polish power plant market - order volume of nearly 6.3bn. Zloty - Contract signed for construction of Kozienice 11 - Duisburg, Germany, 21 September, 2012 Hitachi Power Europe (HPE) together with consortium partner Polimex-Mostostal S.A. signed the contract with Polish energy supplier Enea Wytwarzanie on Friday, September 21th, for construction of the Kozienice 11 coal-fired power plant. The unit will have a gross 1,075 megawatt output involving an order volume of approximately 6.28bn Zloty (ca. 1.54bn EUR).

Construction will take 58 months; work at the project site will begin this year. The new unit will take up commercial operations in the existing power plant complex in 2017.

A few weeks back, HPE and Polimex-Mostostal prevailed with their supply offer. The scope of supply for HPE comprises the utility steam generator inclusive of coal bunkers, coal mills, firing system, flue gas cleaning equipment, the overriding instrumentation & control and a number of balance-of-plants. HPE parent Hitachi, Ltd., will supply the steam turbine and related components. HPE sister company Babcock-Hitachi K.K. (BHK) will take care of the matter of flue gas desulphurization.

With the construction of Kozienice 11, Hitachi Power Europe takes on an important task in the extension of the Polish power generation system and in ensuring a dependable supply of electricity in an expanding economy. The construction of the power block will become a first step for HPE towards a bigger contribution into the Polish power plant market. On completion, the new unit will have a 45%+ efficiency and thus become one of the most modern of its kind in the world.

The high net efficiency provides not only a considerably greater capacity than existing power plants but also saves on valuable resources (less fuel used) and reduces the specific CO2 emissions compared to older power plants. In peak times, up to 2.500 staff will be working on the site during the construction period and a significant share of the value added will remain in Poland. HPE will continue its strategy to team-up with local / Polish companies to support regional prosperity.
