Ready for lift off!
One such skyscraper is the CTF Finance Centre which stands 1,710ft above the city of Guangzhou, China. To shuttle people up and down its 111 floors, Hitachi has built one of the world’s fastest elevators. Reaching a speed of 1,260 m/min, it can get people to the top of the lift in 42 just seconds.
Travelling at this speed isn’t something our bodies are equipped for, so Hitachi developed technologies which reduce vibrations as the elevator zooms up and to prevent people getting painful blocked ears from air pressure. If you can’t picture what a speed of 1,260m/min is like, watch our animation to see how it compares to other ultra-fast people, animals and things.
